Wall décor can often be one of the last
things a person thinks of when she moves. There are so many
different other items that you have to deal with first, that
when the time comes to improve how the walls look, you can already
be worn out.
In order to avoid just throwing some posters up on the wall
and calling it a day, you can improve the look of your walls
by doing a little planning and taking your time. If you are
planning to move all of the furniture and unpack most of the
boxes in one day, do yourself a favor and wait to do the walls
another day.
Because trying to do it all in one day will just make you
feel rushed to get it done, you may end up having less than
stellar wall décor. That’s why waiting until the
next day is a good idea. By doing this, you can get up, look
at all the other décor and furniture in your home, and
better analyze where the items for the wall need to be.
If you still don’t know exactly what you plan to use
to improve the wall décor, you can use the brief list
included here for some ideas that may spark your creative juices
as you decorate.
• Window curtains – Window curtains are important
items to have for more than one reason. Obviously, they can
look nice and add something to the beauty of your home. However,
equally important is the fact that these curtains are what give
you privacy in your home from neighbors and passers-by.
• Lights – The kind of lights you use depends
on what kind of mood you want to set in your new home. Tall
floor lamps are popular items to use for a couple of reasons.
Even though these lamps are technically “wall décor”
they are usually placed in the corner of a room along the wall.
These kinds of lights are helpful if you want a lot of light
in the room because many of them include several light bulbs
that increases the amount of light produced. However, there
are often a few different settings on these lights. This means
that if you only wanted a little light, you could simply set
the lamp so that less bulbs were lit.
This is convenient because these lamps allow you to simply
turn a knob to change the amount of lighting and thus, the mood
of a room.
• Photos and art – Although both of these items
are similar in that they are both usually framed, there are
different sets of rules that govern how to decorate with them.
When decorating with art work, it is important that you make
sure that the art you are hanging is the right size for the
room it is in. A small piece of art on a large wall won’t
have the desired affect. A large piece of art on a small wall
will be more dramatic, but you should be sure that is what you
want before the art is mounted.
When decorating your walls with photos, it is a good idea
to group items together. By doing this you are able, in a sense,
to tell a story. This can include a group of family pictures,
a group of pictures from a vacation, or a group of whatever
else kind of pictures you think you may want to use.
Other considerations like plants and shelving may be incorporated
into your wall décor as well, but if you have down these
basics first, other things can easily fall into place when the
time comes.
