There are many different activities that go on in the home. Lighting for the home should be planned out with that in mind.

A strong, focused source of light can direct attention to an object or specific area of a room which you would like visitors to notice. Shadows cast by lights can be used to break up space on walls or hide unsatisfactory surfaces. It is possible to use more subtle lighting for the home to cause different effects as well. Whereas strong lighting can bring about sharp contrasts, smoother lighting can cause gentler shading gradients. This can be put to use in rooms where a quieter atmosphere is desired.
